SPY's Newsletter 5/27/22

SPY’s Community Newsletter #195 (5/27/22) SPY’s Community Foundation Awards Report #1 On Tuesday, May 24th the Lakewood High School Senior Awards Night was held. At that event, the Foundation gave out four scholarships that we will specifically detail in the next Community Newsletter. In addition to those scholarships there were two other awards presented. With this being the Memorial Day weekend we thought it would be appropriate to acknowledge these awards first. The Sunfield Area Sponsors of Programs for Youth (the SPY’s) and the Sunfield Community Foundation launched a new program in 2020. Now, in addition to the traditional scholarship and community service awards we have given out for the past thirty-six years, we have now begun honoring Lakewood High School students that will be joining the military upon graduation. As President John F. Kennedy said, "Word to the Nation: Guard zealously your right to serve in the Armed Forces, for without them, there will be no other rights to guard”---and we couldn’t agree more. This year, we were pleased and honored to recognize Cora Giffin, of Vermontville, who is the daughter of Terry & Sheri Giffin, and Jasper Cadwell, of Lake Odessa, who is the son Of Nathan Cadwell and Shani Smith. Cora has enlisted into the Navy and Jasper will be joining the Army. Throughout the course of American history, courageous men and women have taken up arms to secure, defend, and maintain those core principles upon which our Nation’s freedoms depend. We thank Cora and Jasper for their willingness to serve. In recognition of their commitment, we presented to each of them the engraved “Lade Military Service Medal”, representing their chosen branch of the service, and a $500 honorarium Reminder Coming up on Sunday, June 12th, will be the 33rd. annual Centennial Acres / SPY Shoot-Out golf tournament. Our event chairmen Derek Desgranges and Steve Grosshans are still looking for some intrepid hackers and whackers to fill out the outing roster. Give either Derek (269-838-7686) or Steve (269-838-6459) a call for further information---or to volunteer to help out---or to sign-up your team. This is a fun event and a major fund-raiser that helps us with our various youth and community programs! Weekly Dinner Specials Return To Centennial Acres Centennial Acres has once again started up their delicious and popular weekly dinner specials. The menu will change each week. We encourage you to check it out! The specials are available each week from Tuesday through Friday, starting at 4 PM. To go orders are welcome, just call 517-566-8055 to place your order. Lakewood Lions Club Holding Their Annual Chicken Bar-B-Q Don’t forget that on Sunday, June 5th, the Lakewood Lions Club will be holding their annual Chicken BBQ from 3 PM til 5:30 PM.
