Grand Marshal Nominations Sought
The 2026 Sunfield Farmers Picnic Committee is gearing up for another fantastic Picnic for you, the third full weekend of August, 14-16, 2026. The first matter of business this year is to seek nominations for the honor of Grand Marshal and then make the tough decision of choosing just one.
We are requesting your assistance by asking you to place your nominations with the Board for anyone you feel should be given the title of Grand Marshal. Grand Marshal nominations must be in writing and clearly identify the nominee and why this individual/couple or group should be considered. Include the following information: What are their ties to the Sunfield Community, their impact on the community, their outstanding qualities? How long have they been in the area? How have they given to the community (volunteerism)? The Board will make this decision on May 6th, so please get your nominations in by Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Looking forward to discovering who you would like to honor, so get your nominations mailed to Sunfield Farmers Picnic, P.O. Box 12, Sunfield, Michigan 48890; emailed to sunfieldfarmerspicnic@gmail.com or find us on Facebook at Sunfield Farmers Picnic Inc. Please note that previous year’s nominees will be included in this year’s list of candidates.
The Sunfield Farmers Picnic Committee would love to have more input on the planning of this year’s and future year’s festivals. Whether you are a resident of the Village of Sunfield, the Township of Sunfield or a surrounding area, We Welcome You! Changes continue to happen, events/activities come and go, but it is the Committee’s goal to keep the Sunfield Farmers Picnic FUN and a great place to come and hang out with family and friends! Please consider volunteering a couple of hours at this year’s festival. Remember that many hands make light work!
The Board would also really appreciate having a member of each business, church, and organization in Sunfield to be present at the monthly meetings as we make decisions that may affect their business. Your input is important to us!
Sportsman’s Night Mega Event Epilogue #4
This year’s extravaganza surely had something for everyone! There was a magnificent array of prizes up for grabs. There were over 100 prizes just for the kids in attendance. There were over a dozen gift cards you could win with values ranging from $50 to $500. There were over 120 other prizes mixed in there too---not to mention the special drawings for exotic guns. Why there were drawing for three “mystery bags” that turned out to contain a quantity of cash. It was an experience to behold.

Parting Comments
· Deep Thought of the Week: A gossip is a person with a keen sense of rumor.
· Notable Quote: ‘Leaders who win the respect of others are the ones who deliver more than they promise, not the ones who promise more than they can deliver. Washington is chocked full of the latter. It’s full of politicians who can’t deliver anything!”
· That's Puny Department: A slice of apple pie in Jamaica is $2. It is $2,50 in the Bahamas. These are the pie rates of the Caribbean.
· Did You Know Section: The brothers Bowie---John J., Rezin P., and James---enjoyed better reputations after death than in life. The three were in the slave trade in Louisiana in the 1820’s, smuggling Negroes into the country from Jean Lafitte’s stronghold on Galveston Island. But James was among the defenders of the Alamo, butchered on his sickbed at its fall, and the name has henceforth been honored. The knife carrying the family name, though accredited to Colonel James Bowie, was actually the invention of his brother Rezin P. It is a strong hunting knife---blade ten to fifteen inches in length---double edged near the point---with hilt, crosspiece, and sheath.
· Here’s A Bonus For Your: Jean Nicot (1530 – 1600) During a mission to Portugal, French Ambassador Nicot was given a Florida tobacco plant. He brought it back to France with him and went into business for himself when he discovered a growing interest in the “American powder” and the “nicotine” it contains.
