Sunfield Community Newsletter
(3/16/26)
Important Announcement
The Sunfield Area Sponsors of Programs for Youth (The SPY’s) have proudly supported youth programs in our community for over 50 years. We want to take a moment to reaffirm our commitment to continuing that mission.
Like many volunteer organizations, the SPY's rely on dedicated people who are willing to serve in board positions, attend meetings, and assist with fundraising events. In order for the SPY's to remain an active and vital organization, we need additional individuals who are willing to step forward and get involved.
If you care about supporting opportunities for area youth and our community, we encourage you to attend our next meeting on April 14th. at 6:30 PM at Best Tax Service. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the organization, ask questions, share ideas, and discuss ways you can help ensure the SPY’s continue to make a positive impact.
We are incredibly proud of what we all have accomplished over the years, and with renewed involvement from our community, we look forward to continuing that work for many years to come.

· Deep Thought of the Week: To err is human, but when you wear out the eraser before the pencil, you’re overdoing it.
· Notable Quote: “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”---Voltaire
· That's Puny Department: Yesterday I saw an ad that read “Radio for sale, $1, volume stuck on full.” I thought, I can’t turn that down.
· Did You Know Section: So, what is the most valuable baseball card that we know exists? It's a card that would likely sell for a cool 3 million bucks today if it were put up for auction. That card is a near-mint condition 1909-11 T206 Honus Wagner rookie card also known as the "Gretzky Wagner" after hockey great Wayne Gretzky bought it in 1991 for $451,000. Just how did the Honus Wagner baseball card become so valuable? It all has to do with Wagner's anti-smoking stance. In the early 1900s, when the former Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop played baseball, so-called cigarette cards like Wagner's were issued by tobacco companies to stiffen cigarette packaging. This card was issued in 1910 by the Sweet Caporal Tobacco Company. The card was printed without Wagner’s permission. Wagner, who didn't smoke himself asked for his cards to be recalled because he did not want young fans to have to purchase tobacco to obtain them, with the indirect effect of dramatically raising their value. Only 96 got into circulation, with just 30 such cards known to still exist. Wagner was one of the first five players ever to make the Baseball Hall of F
