2026 Community Foundation Scholarship and Senior Awards Announcement

Part One

Graduation season is at hand.  Each year for the past 40 years the Sunfield Community Foundation has given out Scholarship and various other awards to graduating seniors.  This year was no exception in that a total of $29,000 in scholarships and awards were distributed to seven students.  Due to “Sunfield Community Foundation Journal”’ space constraints, in this issue we will only cover a couple of the awards, with the rest of the award recipients to follow in the next Journals.  So, on that note, in this issue we will cover the “Richard Lenon Community Service Award” winners.  This award is presented to the senior that has demonstrated the greatest degree of the most dedicated and significant community service and involvement.  This award amounts to an engraved plaque and a cash award of $500.  This year the Scholarship Review Committee had a tough time making a determination on a single award because there were two outstanding candidates---Payton Coan and Dylan Underwood who are pictured below.  So, this year there were dual winners.

Payton Coan

Dylan Underwood

Payton is the daughter of  Sam & Angela Coan and Dylan is the son of Scott & Elizabeth Underwood and Jeff & Jamie Tromater.

Centennial Acres / SPY Shootout Is Coming!

Sunday, June 14th. will be the BIG day!  It will be the thirty-sixth annual "Centennial Acres / SPY Shootout" Golf Tournament.  Over the years, this has become a significant fundraiser for the Sunfield Area Sponsors of Programs for Youth.  We are counting on a great turnout to help us generate the necessary funding to maintain the wide variety of youth programs that the SPY’s provide.  ALL proceeds from this event go to the many kids and community programs the SPY’s support.

The “Shootout” is a four-person scramble format event, with separate divisions for men (with different flights), women, senior men, and coed teams.  (With the Senior Division teams, the youngest team member must be at least 60 years old).  Each division will be flighted, which means you will be competing with teams pretty much the same caliber as yours.   There will be a number of specialty holes, as well as raffles.  Registration forms are now available in the Centennial Acres Pro Shop, or by contacting Tournament Directors Derek Desgranges, (269) 838-7686, or Steve Grosshans, (269) 838-6459.

Again, this year we are featuring an all you can eat outdoor grill with all of the trimmings for the golfers.  In addition, all Corporate and Platinum Sponsor teams will be competing for the coveted "Challenge Cup"

Notice

Coming up on Sunday, June 7th is the Lakewood Lions Club’s Annual Chicken BBQ.  This one will be held at the Lake Odessa Fair Grounds from 3 PM til 5:30 PM.  This is for take-out only with drive-up service starting off of Fourth Avenue.  Prices are---Adults $15 and Children $8. (Please see attached flyer).

·      Deep Thought of the Week: There is a great difference between worry and concern.  A worried person sees a problem, and a concerned person solves a problem.

·      Notable Quote: “Did you know that 14 muscles are activated when opening a bottle of wine?  Fitness is my passion.”

·      That's Puny Department:  The guy next door stopped by and said, “So I heard you and your family had an amaing time seeing the ebras at the oo.”  After he left my wife asked, “Who was that?”  I said, “Just our No-Z neighbor.”

·      Dedicated To The Toughest Man In-The-World-----The Chuck Norris Corner: Did you know that---(1) When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.  (2) Chuck Norris once won a game of Connect Four in three moves.  (3). Chuck Norris can play the violin with a piano.

·      Did You Know Section: In the history of Major League Baseball the record for most runs scored in one inning in the American League is 17, which was done by Boston on June 18, 1953.  In the National League the record is 18, which was done by Chicago on September 6, 1883.  The “victim” in each case were the hapless Detriot Tigers.
