SPY’s Community Newsletter #166
(11/12/21)
Let’s Decorate The Village Again!
The Sunfield Fire Department Auxiliary will once again be “decorating the village” for Christmas by wrapping the utility poles on Main Street with garland and lights. They will again be offering the opportunity for the community to purchase custom-made decorations in memory, or honor of a loved one, or group, for just $10. The name of the person you’re honoring will be displayed on the garland. If you have previously had an ornament displayed, the cost is $5.
Please send your check or money order made out to “Sunfield Fire Auxiliary” to PO Box 223, Sunfield MI 48890, by November 15th. Alternatively, you can private message their Facebook page or any of their members to make arrangements for them to pick up. Please include the name of the person / group you’d like displayed and a way to contact you.
Poles will be decorated on Sunday, November 28th and will remain until after the New Year.
Important Dates To Be Aware Of
· We have been fortunate to have been included in the schedule for one more Texas Hold ‘Em fundraiser this year. This is especially timely since the SPY’s Treasurer Shana Cappon reported out at the last meeting that we had just paid out reimbursements for kids playing in the youth football and soccer programs, so the funds we make will come in handy. The date for the final Hold ‘Em will be Wednesday, December 1st thru Saturday, December 4th. Volunteers to sell chips will once again be needed, so be watching future Newsletters for the schedule.
· The Lakewood Community Council’s annual Christmas Basket distribution will take place on Saturday, December 11th. We will be in need of a crew of volunteers to make deliveries in the Sunfield area. Details to follow shortly.
· The Sunfield Area Sponsors of Programs for Youth Annual Meeting of the Membership will be held on Saturday, January 15th, at the Centennial Acres Golf and Banquet Center. Stay tuned for further details.
Thank You!
Hey Oren Best---we’re sorry you were inadvertently left off the list of volunteers that helped out at the last Texas Hold ‘Em. We appreciate you and your help!
Nominations Please
With the SPY’s Annual Meeting of the Membership coming up on January 15th, we are looking for some nominations in a couple of areas. First---A traditional “thing” that we do at the Annual Meeting is to recognize people both from within the organization, as well as the community at large, for their outstanding service or achievements. If you have anyone you would like to nominate for an award, please contact the SPY’s President Steve Grosshans at 269-838-6459, or email at firefighter925@gmail.com.
Second---At the SPY’s Annual Meeting is the election of officers for 2022. Any SPY member that is interested in serving as an officer in the organization, or would like to nominate someone you think might be interested, again, please contact Steve Grosshans at 269-838-6459, or email at firefighter925@gmail.com.

• Deep Thought of the Week: Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster, and do it with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.
NEWS FLASH: Bill Weller’s granddaughter asked him for a pet spider for her birthday, so he went to a Lansing pet shop and found that they were $70. Forget it, he thought, “I can get one cheaper off the web”.

· Did You Know Section: An 8-inch snowfall on the eve of John F. Kennedy’s inauguration in 1961 left hundreds of cars marooned and thousands more abandoned. An army of men worked all night to clear Pennsylvania Avenue, using flame-throwers.
