Activity has picked up considerably at the old Sunfield Elementary School / Caterpillar Clubhouse building with the new “Good Soil Academy” facility coming on-line.  This new venture offers “Classical Christian Education” and has begun enrolling students for grades K thru 8^th.  If you would like more information about this call 616-902-7148.

Sunfield Farmer’s Picnic To Host Ice Cream Social To Announce The 2026 Grand Marshall

The Sunfield Farmer’s Picnic Board will host an Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Van Buren Park in Sunfield.  At that time the 2026 Grand Marshal will be introduced. 

 The board appreciates all the wonderful nominations for the 2026 Grand Marshal. Please be assured that all nominations will be carried over for consideration in 2027.

 Members of the Board include: Jeff Gibbs, Paul Campbell, DeAnna Clark, Betsy Gibbs, Rod Clark, Ryan Clark, Lesia Brummette, Jay Wacha, Eddy Arnold, Sandy Rebec, Kit Fahey, Diane Hager, Samantha Gonzalves, Grace Shocknesse and Karen Lane.  The next two Committee meetings are Wednesday, July 8, 2026 and July 22, 2026 at the Sunfield Township Hall at 6:30 pm.  Join us or send your comments to P.O. Adopt-A-Highway Trash Pick-Up Is Coming

Derek Desgranges, aka “Captain Highway”, fearless leader of the SPY’s Adopt-A-Highway project, wants to remind everyone about Saturday July 11th. will be the second highway trash pick-up of the season.  Anyone wishing to help out is asked to meet at the Best Tax Service building at 9 AM.

The SPY's pick-up trash along M-43 from Round Lake Road on the west side of town to Shaytown Road on the east side of town, three times a year in conjunction with the Michigan Department of Transportation program.  If for any reason you can’t make it for the July 11th. pick-up day but would still like to help out by doing some picking up on a different day of that week, just give Derek a call at 269-838-7686 and get some bags and he will give you a small section to take care of.  What do you say, let’s have a great turnout and spiff-up the roadsides leading into our community.

Eaton County Announces Tire Collection Events

Eaton County Department of Resource Recovery is pleased to announce two 2026 Tire Collection Events for Eaton County Residents:

·      Delta Township - July 18, 2026, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

·      Charlotte - September 19, 2026, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Please read all information below prior to registration.  Tires not meeting these requirements will not be accepted:

·         This event is open to Eaton County residents only

·         Businesses of any kind are not eligible to participate in this event

·         Passenger car and truck tires only (no greater than 35” total diameter)

·         Oversized, semi, tractor, racing, etc. tires are not accepted

·         Limit of 10 tires per person

·         Limit of 10 tires per vehicle including any attached trailers (this is the maximum amount that can be hauled without requiring a scrap tire hauler registration)

·      That's Puny Department:  I walked into town and right there, in the middle of the square was a slice of apple pie.  I walked down the block and saw an ice cream sundae.  Not 100 feet later I saw a stack of brownies.  I thought to myself, “This town must be desserted.”

·      Did You Know Section:  This week’s subject will be “polka dots”.  Along about 1830 a lively dance originated in Bohemia which speedily took all of Europe and America by storm.  It was named Polka---meaning Polish woman---just as Polak means Polish man.  So popular did the dance become that tradesmen vied with one another to attach the name to jackets, hats, gauze, and even articles of food.  About 1880, or a year or so later, an American dress fabric was introduced, ornamented with round, evenly spaced dots of uniform size which, following the prevailing custom, the maker called “polka dots”.  Actually, however, the textile bears no other connection whatsoever with the dance.
