News From The SSAA

The Sunfield Area Sponsors of Programs for Youth (The SPY’s), provide all of the funding for the youth that play summer ball here in Sunfield. They provide uniforms, equipment, pay for the umpires, help take care of field(s) maintenance issues and items, etc. etc. At last Tuesday’s membership meeting, they approved covering the summer ball program's budget for the coming year.

There is a partner organization that the SPY’s created a number of years ago known as the Sunfield Summer Athletic Association (The SSAA). The SSAA handles all of the organizational things involved in coordinating the various games; practices; coaches; etc. for the various teams and youth tournaments here in Sunfield.

So far this year there are 107 kids that have signed-up will be playing ball. There are four T-Ball teams; three Little League Baseball teams (8 & Under---10 & Under---12 & Under); and three Girls Softball teams (8 & Under---10 & Under---12 & Under).

The season is just beginning and there is a need for some extra coaching help on the various teams. Also, the SSAA is seeking individuals that may be interested in serving on their advisory Board.

If you would like further information about specific volunteering needs, or would like to pitch in and help out in any way, please give either Paul Teachworth (616-755-0173) or Steve Grosshans (269-838-6459) a call. Please do it today!

With the COVID restrictions still going strong, they have severely impacted the SPY’s ability to work at their usual fund-raising events. So, we are searching for ways to help offset some of the season’s expenses without charging a player fee.

To help out in that area, the SSAA is looking for individuals that may be interested in working the concession stand at Van Buren Park for home baseball games in May and June. All games are in the evenings and generally begin around 6 PM and last until approximately 8 PM. For more information or a list of available dates, please email the SSAA at: sunfield.ssaa@gmail.com

Also, a t-shirt fundraiser is underway for the SSAA. Maroon colored shirts with gold lettering are available, as well as hats and headbands. This is a great opportunity to support our area youth that are involved in the ball programs. Please see the attached order form. Payment is due at time of order and they are asking that all order forms be returned by 4/29. Order forms and payment can be sent to PO Box 225, Sunfield, MI 48890 or email sunfield.ssaa@gmail.com. We anticipate shirts being in by mid-May.
