News From Our Library

It is back!  The Sunfield District Library is ready for its annual “March Madness For Book Lovers!”  The brackets are set and ready for the first round.  The teams are made up from books by Michigan Author Patricia Polacco.  Sixteen books are matched up randomly against each other, in the first round.  It is a great way to get families involved in reading and sharing their opinions.  It is like having their own book club.  It will run the entire month of March.  We have made books available now, if people want to get a start on them.

Patrons are encouraged to check out and read the picture books.  Then to vote through the first round of winners.  Readers choose who will move on to the second round.  This continues each week throughout the month of March, until we are down to the “Big Game”.  Everyone who selects the correct finalist will have his or her name entered in a drawing, for a $20 prize.  The competition is a favorite of our patrons and has been enjoyed by many families.  Check it out!

Special Attention #1

It’s SPY’s Community Foundation Scholarship time again.  As mentioned earlier the deadline for students to apply is March 15th.  So, once the applications are in, we will need some volunteers from the community to form the “Scholarship Review Committee”.  If you think you would like to serve, or would like further information as to what’s involved, please contact John Fisher at 517-648-0969.

Special Attention #2

This item is going out to the veterans of the SPY’s 50’s / 60’s Dance between the band sets “ACTS”.  There is a rumor circulating that there is an effort to revive a couple of these for a special event that is being planned for later this summer.  If you were ever in one (or more) of the acts, or would like to participate in one again, please let John Fisher (517-648-0969).  Sounds like fun!

Parting Comments

·      Deep Thought of the Week: Here’s something to think about:  How come you never see a headline like, “Psychic Wins Lottery”?

·      Notable Quote: “The reason I talk to myself is because I’m the only person whose answers I accept.”-----George Carlin

·      That’s Puny Department: One day I long to be the judge of a spelling bee.  I will ask one of the kids to spell the word “there”.  When he asks for it in a sentence, I’ll say… “Their car is parked over there and they’re late.”

·      Did You Know Section: In the 1980’s, A&W tried to compete with McDonald’s Quarter Pounder by selling a 1/3 pounder at a lower cost.  The product failed because most people thought the ¼ pounder was bigger.
