Our Story

The Sunfield Area Sponsors of Programs for Youth, or SPY’s as we are more commonly referred to, is a vital, active community service organization.  We are a Michigan non-profit corporation, and a Federally recognized 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt entity.

In existence since 1975, the SPY’s have over 50 active members, as well as an equal number of active quasi auxiliary.  SPY members may be male or female members,  yet only one per household may be designated as a voting member with a single paid membership.  Spouses or significant  others may sign up individually to receive their own voting rights.

There are three main ingredients to the success of the SPY’s.  The first is the drive and dedication of our members.  Second, is the ever present support and assistance of the SPY’s spouses and significant others.  Third, and perhaps most important, is the acceptance and backing from the  community.

The main focus of the SPY's organization is to provide opportunities both athletic and scholastic for area youth. To that end, SPY's totally fund virtually every boys and girls sports activity currently offered in the area. They provide uniforms, equipment, fees, and associated costs. They also fund numerous projects to enhance the learning environment of Sunfield area students.

The purpose of the SPY's shall be civic service through organized
efforts of the men and women of the community, to promote the
welfare of the community and its citizens through active,
constructive, youth oriented well as provide members
experience in leadership and civic consciousness.

To attain the financial goals that enable us to sustain the various youth activities we provide, the organization holds fund-raisers throughout the year. Contributions from the membership of time and labor, membership dues, along with individual monetary donations through the Scholarship Fund, the Youth Activities Trust Fund, and United Way designations, contribute to the success of our organization. There are no paid positions within the organization. All labor is donated. This includes the invaluable support from spouses and friends.

The members are engaged in providing the activities necessary to develop leadership skills, team building, as well as a proper sense of values in the children of our community. We are concerned, active adults working towards this united goal. These attributes, properly provided, will repay the community - its citizens and businesses – many fold in the future.

The Sunfield SPY's have a rich history of being active in our community. Through family friendly events, fundraisers and community service opportunities, we continue to be a vital, active organization striving to make the Sunfield area a better place to live.

Annual dues are currently only $20. Along with your annual dues, we ask that you work at least one fundraising event each year. Unlike many other organizations, meetings are strictly voluntary. They are held on the second Tuesday of each month at the Sunfield Library at 7:00 PM. SPY members are kept informed of current projects through a paid subscription to the Sunfield Sentinel Newspaper.

Members also receive a SPY's community celebration calendar that includes birthdays and anniversaries of local residents.

We invite you to join us at our next regularly scheduled meeting or contact us below for more information and to learn more!
